How to make a Deep digging 450
The first step is to disasemble the machine as shown
Locate the boom cylinder's pins.
Next, drill out the rivits. This can be done by hand or...
...by machine (the manly way) Always use wood when clamping.
Do the same on the other side. I choose to not to remove of the cab insert since it was glued in place.
Use needle nose pliers to pull out the pins.
Cut 1 cm off of the bottom of the piston. Then make a mark
Here is the way to clamp up the machine to cut off the end of the cylinders. If any part of the model comes in contact with the vise put a wood shim in there.
Cut the cylinder with any common Hacksaw. I used a coping saw with a metal blade.
To reassemble it you can use the original pins. I used some Brass stock to put it back together. If you use brass make sure it is thick wall tube or solid round stock.
Put the rest of the model together and here it is showing how much deeper it can now dig. (Compared to a 365B L II)
Since the wide part of the cylinder gets cut off it needs to be stiffined to keep it up. I use this glue applied to the cylinder rods.
Prop up the boom with some thing, and aplly as seen below.
